Compelling article about Chechneya (sp?) in the asian times. i didn’t realize how bad it is there. Apparently war crimes are a routine occurence and around 100,000 civilians have been killed in the fighting. It’s intersting that stories like this are completly absent from main the main stream media. No wonder peopl ewere surprsied by islamic terrorism.

I’m lazy so I’m just gonna post this email I sent to Michelle about teaching in china, cause y’all might be intersted.

It’s gotten pretty cold here, and I got sick again, cause I talk all the time in class and the pollution is bad. Oh yeah and one night I decided to stay up all night for no reason at all. Life in china here is pretty good. The program I am on is pretty good, but it’s not really much of a program. It’s basically just a way to hook up with a school in China. The orientation was a joke. The things they do for me which are nice is give me back up if I have trouble with the school. Like when the school told me that I should stay in side and not go out, they called and straightened things out. Th also set me up with a pretty nice contract thought the pay is kind of shitty. The one thing I don’t like is that compared to the other foriegn teachers that I know, my school is all up in my business. They have good intentions like taking me to tourist attractions and giving me food and making sure I am safe, but I wish they would just leave me alone. It’s a pain to have to explain where I am going everytime I don’t eat dinner at school and I don’t really like the tourists places they like to, I would much rather go with my friends I have made in other places.

Teaching in China is a good job, It’s pretty easy and the culture is very different from the US. Everybody here wants to learn english so there is a large demand. I am thinking about staying here another year and really learning Chinese. If I stay another year I might move somewhere else and try to get more money. You can get the most money working for private companies but then you have to work a lot of hours, so working for a goverment school is better in my opinion. Anyway if all you want is money you should teach in Japan or Korea. China is probably a little beter than India in terms of sexual harassment, at least thats what I’ve heard, I’m not a girl so I don’t know for sure.

Well i wasn’t going to write anything today but then I saw this article in the NYtimes Putin Vows Hunt for Terror Cells Around the World. So what will Bush do if the Russians start to act unilaterally against what it conisiders terrorism? This also goes against Bush’s National Security Strategy, which states that the united states should actively try and reduce the power of all potentially competitive armies. Some shit could go down…

I think one of the charecter traits that makes it easy for me to live in China is that I just don’t care about shit that other people care about. I think it is one of the reasons I am so lazy and dirty, I just don’t care when I’m doing anything or I am living in a shithole, it dosn’t piss me off the way it pisses off other people. In china this is good cause shit that would piss other people off dosn’t piss me off. Like my toilet seat that vroke the second week I was here, it just didn’t bother me that much. Even though it would probably be easy to go out and buy a new one I just squat now, its what the majority of the chinese do anyway. It’s the same thing with my bike. the thing is falling apart, the thing that lets you coast dosn’t work so half the time I am jsut pedaling but getting no torque on the wheel, the brakes only kind work so its usaully better to dodge obsticles than to sloq dosn and one of the pedals fell off. All my chinese friends say I should bitch to the school to give me a new bike but I think its really funny having this ghetto ass bike and riding around China. Plus, I get to meet new people when it breaks down, Like the fat man who was selling pigs feet that should me how to bounch the bike up and down to get the gears working again. hmm so thats that

Why is Al Gore sounding so intelligent these days? I think I underestimated the man in the last election. His recent statements on Iraq have been pretty good and he dosn’t sound lik ehe is lieing all the time. He probably looked at Clinton’s succes and thought that he would need to emulate the political slimyness that made Clinton so succesful. The problem is that Gore can’t lie worth shit, (unlike Bush whose low intellect makes it easy for him to lie). If he sticks to actually saying what he believes instead of what James Carville tells him, I think Gore could be real succesful in the next presidential campaign.

I’m tired but I wanted to do a lot of blogging today. Tommorow I will blog about why I am so lazy and my chinese bike, the current Iraqi situation (e.g. bush’s redefintion of regime change and the freeing of Iraqi prisoners) and the article by Paul Krugman in the NYtimes, For Richer

The one thing I gotta say is…. Look at this all you bitch ass haters who said notre dame wasn’t a top five team, that they weren’t for real, the dumb ass associated press that has them ranked at #6, SCOREBOARD NOTRE DAME 34, FLORIDA ST. 24.

Now if only brett’s knee would get better all would be well with the world.

Hmm, don’t really feel like writing anything today. I’ve been reading a lot of blogs by ecomomists. They generally offer the best political analysis on the web. So if your bored check out these links

maxspeak, I read this one almost everyday, pretty liberal

Brad Delong, More centrist than max but stil excellent all around

d-squared, more flip than the first two, but a great read, though I don’t buy his theory on Iraq
